Dockage & Mooring
Nestled at the head of Somes Sound, Abel’s Marina & Boatyard is widely regarded as one of Mount Desert Island’s most protected boating destinations. A short distance from Bar Harbor, our marina offers a safe and convenient home port for both seasonal and visiting boaters, surrounded by the natural beauty of Acadia National Park and sheltered by the unique fjord-like waters of Somes Sound.
The deep waters of Somes Sound allow us to accommodate vessels up to 150 feet in length. With approximately 40 moorings and 30 dock spaces, berth availability varies throughout the season and is subject to vessel size and dock configuration. To best serve both our customers and visiting boaters, a limited number of slips and moorings are reserved for transient guests and service customers.
Seasonal
Seasonal slip and mooring availability changes from year to year, and we do maintain a waiting list for both. Depending on vessel size, electrical requirements, and overall demand, the waiting list can move quickly as customers upgrade vessels, change arrangements, or leave the area. As a result, we encourage interested boaters to inquire even if availability appears limited.
For seasonal dockage and moorings, our practical maximum vessel length is approximately 70 feet. While our docks can physically accommodate larger vessels, the availability of 50-amp shore power service is limited. Additionally, our largest moorings are typically reserved for transient and visiting vessels throughout the season.

Transient
Visiting Mount Desert Island by boat? Abel’s Marina & Boatyard welcomes transient vessels throughout the boating season. Conveniently located at the head of Somes Sound in one of the most protected harbors on Mount Desert Island, our marina offers a safe and comfortable destination for visiting boaters. Centrally positioned on the island, guests enjoy easy access to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and all other points of interest throughout Mount Desert Island.
Our deep-water docks and mooring field can accommodate vessels up to 150 feet in length, subject to berth availability and configuration. To best serve visiting boaters, a limited number of slips and moorings are reserved for transient guests throughout the season. Because availability can fill quickly during peak summer months, advance reservations are strongly encouraged
2026 Transient Rates
Dockage: $5.00 per foot, per night, plus applicable electrical charges
Moorings: $1.00 per foot, per night ($40 minimum charge)
